Damers Eco Crew

Damers Eco Crew have run previous campaigns to reduce plastic in their community including the ‘refill’ campaign to encourage people to refill rather than buy a plastic bottle as well as the ‘Waxtastic – no plastic’ campaign to encourage people to not buy plastic clingfilm. At Damers, fruit comes loose in cardboard boxes, milk in reusable glass milk bottles with reusable beakers after children wrote to the national businesses. All food waste is composted on site in Ridan Food Waste Composter that makes compost for schools gardens.

The Campaign

The children are asking businesses across Dorchester to reduce 3 single use items within their premises. This could be as simple as no longer stocking plastic cups and moving to re-usable bottles. Our aim is to get 100 businesses to take part in the campaign and encourage others to consider alternatives to plastic.

Plastic Free Communities is a Surfers Against Sewage campaign. ‘It’s not about removing all plastic from our lives. It’s about kicking our addiction to avoidable single-use plastic, and changing the system that produces it.’

Damers Eco crew have sent letters to businesses across Dorchester and Poundbury asking them to give up three single use plastics or find three alternatives. The children will also be doing a presentation to 60 – 70 business at a Dorchester Chamber for Business Plastic Free breakfast on 7th February at The Dorford Centre.
