Reusable Cup Scheme at Dorchester Cider Festival

Whether you’re planning a wedding, hosting a business meeting or organising a food festival, there are lots of simple changes you can make to become more sustainable. Find out what your organisation can do to #MakeTheChange and start your sustainable events journey!

We encourage events to consider the waste hierarchy, which prioritises reusing over recycling in order to reduce waste and prevent litter. Check out our handy guidance on how you can make your event less impactful. Often making changes like this can save money, reduce after event clean up and attract the growing audience of environmentally-conscious people who want to invest their time and money in events that share their ethos.

Community Cup Scheme

Be the solution to pollution!

Reuse to reduce waste and litter.

Use a Deposit Return Cup Scheme at your event.

Litter Free Dorset has 1000+ community cups which can be borrowed for community events.

How it works

  • Customers buy a community cup for a £2 deposit – all cold drinks are sold using a reusable cup.
  • When people have finished with their cup, they can return it and receive their deposit back.
  • Cups will then be washed, dried and packed away ready for the next community event.

Behind The Scenes

In June 2020 Litter Free Dorset ran a project looking at waste and litter at events, this project was funded by the WRAP Litter Innovation Fund.

As part of the research, Litter Free took part in bin audits as well as facilitating a workshop with community members and event organisers.

Take a look at our ‘behind the scenes’ to see where the idea for our community cup began.
